It does not matter if you are poor or wealthy, everyone loves a bargain! The only difference between the two is that one seeks out a bargain out of necessity whereas the other just loves the challenge. Regardless of what is the driving force behind one’s frugality, there are a few things the successful bargain hunter considers.
First of all, there is a best time to shop for many things. A little planning ahead can reap great rewards in this way. Seasonal products can be as much as 80 percent off after the holiday. Some things such as wrapping paper can be saved for the following year. For edible items that won’t keep till the holiday comes around again, consider that it really does not matter. For example, candies that are wrapped in a holiday’s colors are exactly the same any time of the year.
Other time-sensitive items to consider are non-consumables. For example, televisions (especially large screen) typically go on sale right before the Super Bowl. Tools are cheaper just before Father’s Day. Gardening equipment and supplies go on sale before the season begins and then often go on clearance near the end of the season.
Another way to get a bargain is to use coupons and rebates. Coupons are included with the Sunday newspaper in many areas. Alternatively, there are various places online that you can direct yourself to print out coupons for products you will be buying. A good idea is to go to the websites of the companies whose products you purchase a number of things from and get on an email list for coupons, offers and rebates.
Here is a trick for those that enjoy eating at restaurants – check into their gift card program. Many offer a discount for purchasing them either by paying less than the face value or by getting an extra amount with purchase. You do not have to give these away as gifts; use them yourself!
There are obviously many more ways than this to get a bargain, but these few tips can get you thinking in the right direction and saving money!
